November Featured Transformation of the Month


I want to start off by thanking Evolve Fitness for inviting me to share a bit of my health journey with you guys and how I have lost 75 lbs so far, since the end of January 2018.

So, for those of you who do not know me, I am Ashton and I joined Evolve at the end of February 2018! I will get more into the wonderful experience I have had by joining this gym after I explain how I got here.

This past year has been extremely difficult for me. A year ago, I was lying in a hospital bed after having surgery on my broken and out of place left fibula. I also injured my right ankle severely at the same time (fell down the stairs, wasn’t paying attention, was walking too fast, you get the gist, lol). From that, I was in a wheel chair for a few months. I was 22 years old at the time (now 23) and this was not something I would have ever expected to face at such a young age. Lying in bed for days, weeks, months at a time was physically, mentally, and emotionally difficult. I have always been an independent person and going from doing everything on my own to not being able to accomplish simple, daily tasks was depressing for me. During this time, I really hit my lowest of my lows and didn’t think things would ever get better.

When I started healing, I began realizing the importance of taking advantage of each day on this earth. Through my appreciation, I began recognizing the importance to better my health. Going through that tough time, made me recognize how much we take for advantage with our bodies.

In December of 2017, my fiancé and I moved to Norwich because of his career. We had heard of Evolve a few different times through some friends. My fiancé, Tyler joined the gym in January and I told myself that when I started healing from my injuries, I would join too.

I knew that I wanted to change my life around after being in such an unhealthy, depressed state after having my surgery. I also knew that beginning to exercise again would help me regain strength in my muscles that I lost while recovering. Also, keeping your body moving after an injury will only help it heal stronger and becoming sedentary while in pain only makes that pain worse.

I changed my eating habits on January 15th, 2018. Because I was unable to go to the gym due to my injuries at that time, I decided that taking control of my nutrition was the first step towards bettering my health. I didn’t think I could stick with it in the beginning and I don’t think other people did either. But, here I am on November 1st, 2018 writing this post to tell you that I stuck with it. That I am going to stick with it, and that you can too.

I also want to mention that I was a former athlete that played for multiple teams, traveled the country for those teams, competed in elite tournaments and showcases, and I fell off track for many reasons. I wasn’t always unhealthy, I just made a lot of unhealthy choices throughout my undergraduate career of college.

But when I fell off, I fell off hard. I had every excuse in the book for why I couldn’t change my health, lose weight, and work towards becoming the best version of myself. I blamed my hormonal imbalance (PCOS) for why I couldn’t lose weight, when reality I needed to exercise regularly and change my diet. I started my master’s degree last year and started blaming that for being the reason why I didn’t have time to change my own life. Believe me, I had every excuse.

I started going to Evolve at the end of February and this was the first time I really had the mentality that I was going to stick with this lifestyle change. In the past 4 years I have tried soooo many times to have a regular gym routine and I failed every. single. time. To me, that’s okay. I wasn’t ready before February 2018 to embark on this journey, but I made sure I was ready this time.

Joining Evolve has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Moving into a community where my fiancé and I both really didn’t know anyone, has been very weird for me. However, the staff and members that I have met through Evolve has helped me feel more “at home.” One reason I truly believe that I have stuck with this lifestyle change is because of my gym. The staff and members at Evolve have always been welcoming, supportive, and positive towards my health journey.

So many members have come up to me throughout these past few months to compliment me on my progress, and to me that means the WORLD (especially because these people are some of the most fit people I have seen in my life, literal goals). But something about Evolve that makes it so unique is that although there are so many in shape people in the gym, they are ALWAYS kind and respectful towards those who may not be at the same level. There’s such a wide range of people who exercise at this gym, training at such different levels.

Also, I would like to mention the physical aspect of Evolve. It is huge! There’s so much space in this gym and this also helped me become more comfortable working out there compared to other places I have exercised at before where I felt like there was no personal space, lol.

I have never felt so comfortable in a gym before joining Evolve, and I mean that. It has now turned into such a regular routine to go in there and work hard 5-6 days of the week, it’s almost like a second home.

I am grateful for this gym community and a HUGE thank you to all who have supported me through my health journey so far! This past year has been challenging for me, but I am so thankful to have joined Evolve and have gained such a great deal of support from the gym community there. I am thankful to be where I am at right now, but I still have a lot of work to do. I know that Evolve will always have my back and push me to become the best version of myself physically, mentally, and emotionally!
